Off to Malaysia - What's in my bag

This is bound to be a rather un-glamorous trip, but I'm going to see family, not live it up :)  I packed according to several warnings - heat/humidity, bugs, the countryside and a more modest culture in general, rough clothes-washing/drying, and of course, sun.  My grandma lives around the area where the first Survivor was held, if that gives you any idea XD

For comfort, mobility and family dinners:

Forever 21 and Mossimo butterfly tops, Made for Life and Bozzolo leggings

 (... Plus some old free t-shirts and baggy shorts and other stuff that would be weird to photograph lol)

 For battling mosquitoes and sun:

Limited Too hoodie (it still fits!), Everlast sweat-proof workout top, Fragile Blue Jeans cropped pants

For the beach:

D&Y sunhat, MixIt flip flops, Cazimi onepiece swimsuit, Dockers aviators, Forever 21 midi dress

For country walking:

Mushroom sandals (kind of ugly haha... oh well, I'm not going to kill my joints)

Skin-savers:

Facial towlettes, sunblock, bugspray, oil-blotting sheets

And just in case (for a nice dinner or city outing):

because you never know who you'll meet ;)

"Budget shopping" haul

Admittedly, around junior high/high school, I swore to myself that I would never again shop at JCPenney or Sears.  Things were poor quality/ill-fitting, tacky, etc.  But nowadays, I realized that that was unfair and rude.  Perhaps these companies have stepped up their game a bit due to the economy, but it's also a matter of taking a careful look to see what you can really discover.  Similar to thrift store shopping, there's the "who would ever buy that" merchandise, but there can be a few gems - at amazing prices - if you're patient and lucky.

Speaking of price: after developing a keener eye in outlets and consignments, plus all the crazy recession sales in the past few years, I've come to realize how much clothes generally are REALLY worth.  It's never worth it just to "buy the brand" or just to follow a trend.  And I loathe paying full price now.  Not that I sacrifice quality, but quality often doesn't warrant the $100 price tag like I used to think.  And really, I take good care of my clothes so they hardly ever tear, fade or shrink anyway.

Being creative with re-styling what you already have, and buying only what you love and what makes sense, means you don't need as much.  Eventually you stop wanting everything in sight.
