Mini Fall trend haul

Even though the season has just started, I was able to get all these on sale!

/  Bag - Olivia + Joy (Macy's) [$60, originally $100]

/  Peplum top - t. barbaton (Aritzia) [$35, originally $110, WIN!]

/  Cigarette slippers - Forever21 [$15, originally $25]

Trends :  

-  Leather and metal hardware is huge this season.

- Top-handle, flat bags are in as well.  I was about to go with a doctor bag from the same company, but I liked how this was easier to wear on the shoulder because of its shape.  It can also hold papers and such.

- Cigarette slippers (aka smoking/slipper shoes), and any shoes with metal tips, like the shoes I posted from Victoria's Secret.

- Seems like lace and peplums are here to stay for awhile longer.  This one is the most flattering peplum I've ever tried on. 

- Deep reds and blues are some of the more popular colors on the Fall runways.


Details:

Because it requires a layer underneath, it allows for a bit of versatility and interest.  It's lightweight enough to go over dresses, and if I add a contrasting layer underneath then the details of the lace really stand out.

This is my first real "lady-like" purse.  It is faux-leather, but it feels similar to genuine leather, and I'm pretty careful with my things so I wouldn't worry about durability.  Perhaps I can go vegan with handbags and save money at the same time.  The dark lining is stain resistant, which is a plus.

I love the little flap(?) that cigarette shoes have.  They add a little menswear touch to normal flats without being outright loafers.

New Dress a Day (and more)

 Marisa from New Dress a Day is a woman who has spent years re-designing thrift store finds into wearable pieces.  At about one piece a day, her budget is only $365 a year (aka $1 a day).  I love her quirky "before" photos of her outrageous finds, and the surprising ways she re-invents them.  Once I improve my sewing skills, I might try this out...

These thrift haul videos are making me eager to go thrifting again...  But I need a patient buddy! :(

I like how these girls take more of a current-day approach to vintage and style the pieces for now, instead of going all-out old-school.

ThriftDrifter is my favorite - plus she often includes refashion/upcycle ideas.

This intro from Riannstar gives a good explanation for why you should choose wisely between thrift stores.  Also good explanations for why she chose all her pieces, how she will style them and such.  Her hair and makeup is so pretty!

LaMadelynn's style is super cute and slightly minimalistic.

Falling for Victoria's Secret Fall 2013 Lineup

My mom has been ordering clothing from the Victoria's Secret catalogue for as long as I can remember, and I myself can attest to their customer service, trusty shipping, and quality fit and fabrics.  

This Fall, they seem to be stepping up their game even further.  I want almost everything from the new collection.  There are a lot of leather pieces and luxe materials, and tomboy elements with a feminine silhouette.  It's making me look forward to the change of season!  I love sweaters and the layering options that cool weather allows.

 

I love how this leather detail is still rendered soft and drapey.

 

Subtle hardware and a sturdy heel.  Perfect with skinny pants.  And that eggplant/oxblood color is gorgeous.

 

I've been looking for t-strap flats for awhile now.

 

Perhaps I'll start embracing black more.  When it's a mix of textures, it becomes less austere and more visually interesting.
